CAIRO– 6 August 2017: The Health Ministry has announced it will launch a campaign to conduct a survey of chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs).

The campaign aims to pin the spread rates of diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and obesity across the nation, Dr. Ola Khairallah, the head of the non-communicable diseases’ unit at the health ministry said in a statement on Sunday.

The survey will include a sample representing all population groups nationwide, she added.

It will begin in mid August in the Upper Egypt governorates, she noted.

A similar campaign was mounted in the governorates of Cairo and Giza in collaboration with the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) and the World Health Organization (WHO), she stressed.

For his part, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khalid Megahed described the survey as one of the most important ones to be carried out every five years according to the WHO recommendations.
